'Bronze and Rust' - Day 4 - Drygarn Fawr

I had a beautiful run up from Elan village, through the valleys, looking autumnal with bracken turning rusty orange. The weather turned on the top but there were expansive views and a real feeling of remoteness.

After very heavy rain for most of the morning, I'd nearly given up hope of good views but we were finally blessed with sunshine and just brief showers, making the journey up to Drygarn Fawr very memorable.

Soggy again but gorgeous views. Kept my spirits up with a houmous, cheese and lettuce sandwich! Everything tastes good out there.

The cairn on Drygarn Fawr was impressive. The original cairn dates back to the bronze age but this large beehive cairn was reconstructed more recently.

The first of today's paintings (below) - the darks clouding sweeping in and capturing the remote and wonderful wilderness of Drygarn Fawr:

Coming back down to the Elan valley reservoirs.

Second painting of day 4, picking up some of the early colour changes that welcome in the start of autumn in the Elan valley:

It's been a tough but rewarding week so far. I love being out there and I can't wait to do some more. Fingers crossed for some better weather. Tomorrow, I'm excited to be moving on to the Brecon Beacons. There should be some great views and hopefully inspire some great paintings to follow.

See you up there.

Elaine.
