No.9 'All the Time in the World'
All the Time in the World Sandwood Bay, Sutherland, Scotland Acrylic on canvas board 33.1" x 23.4" June 2024 Why I chose this subject/scene: I did Cape Wrath Ultra 2023 and went back to be artist in residence 2024. Sandwood Bay was on the last day after having been in the mountainous areas. You know you are following the coast towards Cape Wrath but this is the first proper beach that you hit. On the final day, there are 6-7 miles on the road and then you take a little track

Even more Cape Wrath paintings!!
These are probably my final two paintings from the Cape Wrath Ultra, now added to the gallery and shop. However, if you have a favourite view, feel free to contact me to commission a painting. I ran each day to these locations along the Cape Wrath Trail, carrying a heavy load of art gear, including my pochade box, paints, brushes and canvas boards. These were two of the many beautiful views along the way (Loch Glencoul, Loch Beag and Loch Glendhu) , with plein air studies sta

Cape Wrath Ultra Day 8
Oh my goodness, finally day 8 of #capewrathultra. So obviously there were only two main locations to visit. Sandwood Bay and Cape Wrath Lighthouse. I took a million photos to bust me over the next few months (years??) An absolutely stunning journey and the perfect day to finish. I think I spotted a sea eagle. My favourite painting spot of the whole week, I could have stayed there for hours but haggis, neeps and tatties is beckoning me. What an incredible opportunity, can’t th

Cape Wrath Ultra Day 7
What a day! 😍 After a lift to check point 1, along Loch Glendhu I ran the BEST of the day’s route back to Inchnadamph camp. Stopping for a slightly frustrating paint stop with the most amazing view…it’s amazing how sitting in one spot makes a lot of runners stop and take a photo!! The painting has finally been finished after also painting my hair white 🫣😆 Anyhow, it was quite a way back, so the remainder of the route was used to take a billion reference photos. Today was p

Cape Wrath UltraArt Day 6
There was no real question as to where I would head to today. Straight to Inchnadamph and up the gorgeous trail towards the Col beneath Conival. I stopped along the way by the river to paint and thankfully by the time I reached the col the clag had cleared and the views were spectacular. Fantastic day, heart is full, belly is even more full (pie, peas and mash for dinner!) only downside are the amount of tiny ticks 😳 I’m homesick but also don’t want this journey to end!

CWU Day 5 - DREICH!
It was rainy, it was cold, there was too much clag! I headed out early to do my 6 x 3 minute hill intervals on the end of Day 4 as I’d remembered I’d loved the tiny rocky trail with its glistening white rocks. Intervals done the return trip was far more enjoyable taking photos along the way. From the camp at Inverbroom I took the trail to cheer on the runners on their last few miles, I found a lovely big boulder and painted about the only view I could find! Back to camp for m

CWUDay 4 - The early bird catches the….midges 🤨
An early rise to make the most of the day before the heavens opened. I made my way straight to the Torridon carpark and was greeted by a million midges. Hastily I made my way up the col and onwards to find the perfect spot looking onto the Triple Buttress, perfect if the cloud hadn’t been down! Within minutes it thankfully lifted but spent the next few hours playing hide and seek with me. It made for some interesting painting and heavy usage of the white paint!! Despite that

Inspirational Cape Wrath
CWU Day 2 from Kinloch Hourn has been AMAZING! An early start to make it along the hour long single track road 😳then a boat to Barrisdale, a hike up to the Col and then back down to Barrisdale Bay. I have a lot to learn about choosing my painting spot to best avoid midges, ants and ticks! Loads of inspiration, a few paintings. Let’s see what tomorrow brings 😁 of inspiration, a few paintings. Cape Wrath - Harry Potter Viaduct
CWU looking forward to Day 2 - of course I couldn’t come here and not do any running. It’s too beautiful not to. However, my art kit pack is twice as heavy as my spine pack = sneaking in a bit of extra weight training. 😜💪 So I ran on up some of the day 2 route and took a few photos that I can use for some later paintings. 🖼️

Cape Wrath Ultra - Artist in Residence!!
Counting down the days until I journey up the west coast of Scotland along the Cape Wrath Ultra trail. Super excited to be on that beautiful, remote trail and to join the Ourea team as artist in residence. I’ve been busy pouring over my maps and have plotted out points to access to sit and paint (🤞weather plays ball!) Can’t wait to put my beautiful present the New Wave U.Go pochade box to good use. Midge net, waterproofs and multiple layers are all ready! For those who have
