Elaine is a British artist and ultra-runner. She has podiumed at many of the great mountain ultra races in the UK, including Cape Wrath Ultra, The Spine, Dragons Back Race and Lakeland 100.

Elaine primarily works with acrylic on canvas creating impressionist and abstract images of Britain’s beautifully brutal mountain landscapes.

Her work explores the power of nature and reflects her passion for the wild and remote. It is here where she seeks adventure, exploration and new vistas.

She works both en plein air and in her studio, where she captures those memories on canvas. The ever changing and powerful nature of these environments is translated through her use of colour and brushstrokes. A limited colour palate is used to create the mood and reflect the changes in light, weather and season.

Her paintings also convey the emotions of the ultra runner, the determination and the resilience required to overcome the challenges that nature presents.

The resultant artwork is an abstract expression of the landscape and reveals an essence of temporality.

Elaine is based in Durham, but her heart is in The Lake District where she spent many holidays as a child and has since spent many great days (and nights) on the fells running and painting.

She has a BA in Fine Art with First Class Honours from Sunderland University. Her support comes from an amazing husband, brilliant children and Lottie the dog, all of whom are usually to be found in bed whilst she is battling the elements and suffering for her art!
